Mastering the art of the thank you letter is an essential skill to have, especially during your job search process. It’s also a wonderful way to show your friends your appreciation as well as to strengthen your professional network. Here’s a way for you to master your thank you letter in 3 easy sentences.
- State: write the action or thing they did for you or with you. It helps to include the senses you used in observing their action: touch, smell, taste, etc. (i.e, Yesterday you opened up a time slot for me in your busy schedule and welcomed me with a warm hug)
- Explain: the impact that this action had on you. (i.e, You helped me feel welcome and comfortable in an unfamiliar setting)
- Thank: express your gratitude sincerely and try to pinpoint a favorable characteristic trait that the person you are thanking has. (i.e, Your company is fortunate to have such an caring manager and I am grateful for your mentorship)
On a side note, I have created an official Twitter and Facebook to go along with this blog. To promote them, I am having a giveaway of a set of each thank you letter you see in the picture above!
