Hey gals!
This weekend my amazing husband turned 25! He turned a quarter of a century!!! Of course, being who I am, I considered that a really big deal. I wanted to make this birthday really special for him especially because it would be the first birthday we would celebrate as a married couple!
I found that being married brought with it some challenges in terms of trying to surprise Joe for his birthday. We live together now AND we share a bank account so in terms of trying to make “surprise” purchases and “surprise” decorate the place, I found that it was pretty difficult to do! I asked you guys on my instagram stories what I should do and got so much great feedback! I’ll include the amazing ideas you guys suggested at the bottom of this post!
In the past, I have also gravitated towards projecting what I personally would want for my birthday on to Joe’s birthday. I love big crowds, lots of attention, surprises, cute decorations, and an activity filled day. Joe is basically the OPPOSITE of me! He likes very small crowds, very little attention, could care less for cute decorations and would rather be at home relaxing with good food.
So keeping these factors in mind.. I decided to cook him lots of good food and plan a very intimate gathering with the friends that he loves and tried to limit the activities planned and instead just went with the flow with what he wanted!
The food I cooked Joe sure was popular with you guys and I got so many requests to share the recipes and so I’m doing just that today!!

BISCUITS & SAUSAGE GRAVY
We started the day with Joe’s favorite breakfast food: biscuits and gravy
(for the gravy, you MUST use the hot from Bass Farms, I’ve tried different sausages for this recipe and it’s just not the same!)
2) CINNAMON ROLLS
I did not chill or freeze these rolls, I just let it sit for one hour and then went ahead and baked them. They turned out great, if I had let them sit longer in the fridge they might have gotten bigger which I’ll have to try out next time!!
** I did add extra brown sugar just because I feel like brown sugar melts beautifully so that was definitely a personal preference.
In terms of the icing, I didn’t have all the ingredients The Pioneer Woman called for so I decided to just wing it and it came out amazing.
I used:
-
1 stick of butter (softened)
-
8 oz. cream cheese (softened)
-
4 tablespoons of milk (add more as needed)
-
½ cup powdered sugar (add more as needed)
-
Dash of vanilla extract
I started out with these four ingredients and then added powder sugar and milk as I saw fit to reach the consistency I was looking for. To thicken your icing, add powdered sugar. To make your icing runnier, add milk.
3) ITALIAN CREAM CAKE
I did do some things differently with this recipe: I only used two cake pans to make a double layer cake and then used the cinnamon roll icing to coat the cake.
I honestly hate coconut flakes and Joe isn’t the biggest fan of it either but I wanted to give it a try, it ended up being so delicious!!!
And finally….

Wrap presents with certain times of the day and have him open them when it gets to that time
-
A new video game
