Hi darlings, it’s hard to believe my last NC State Fair post was from 2015! Joe and I went this weekend and I thought, “Hmm, wouldn’t be a bad idea to update my tips!”
This time, Joe and I didn’t even focus on any of the rides or the games, we were entirely focused on THE FOOD.
WHERE TO PARK
You’re already going to be spending loads of $$ on food so I suggest you take advantage of free parking available at PNC arena! From here, you will only have about a 10-15 minute walk to the fairgrounds, which you might as well walk off with all the calories you will likely consume :)
THE FOOD WE ATE
Fair food is so expensive, so I will rank my favorites based on the ones you most definitely have to try. Don’t forget to bring cash! For two people, I think you should have AT LEAST $40 (although Joe and I definitely will blow this amount.. haha)
-
Roasted Corn ($4)
Okay, okay, I know some people really don’t understand why you would go to the FAIR to eat corn but seriously this corn is SO GOOD. Especially when you put your favorite seasonings on it (mine being ranch and Old Bay) -
Wisconsin Cheese Jalapeno Cheddar ($9)
Okay, this stuff is HANDS DOWN my FAVORITE STUFF. I mean deep fried cheese dipped in ranch.. Oh my gosh, y’all, it is heavenly I kid you not. -
Poutine ($6)
-
Krispy Kreme Burger ($6) and Fried Mac and Cheese ($3)
I honestly did not like the Krispy Kreme Burger but Joe had wanted to try it so bad, so we got it haha! -
Howling Cow Ice Cream ($5)
Joe and I had the Wolf Tracks and the Apple Pie Crisp. We definitely need to try the Campfire Delight next time! -
Other food we had but didn’t take pictures: Philly Cheese Steak & Fries
WHAT I WISH WE HAD TRIED
-
Deep Fried Key Lime Pie
-
Thanksgiving Egg Roll
-
Wafflewich Sandwich
-
Barbecue Jerk Ribs
-
Honey Cotton Candy
TIPS
-
Take advantage of free parking at PNC Arena
-
If you are a student and live near the NC State Fairgrounds, you should definitely go on a day when student discounts are offered or the day you can get free entry by donating canned food.
-
Get access to the state fair map and plan the route you want to take so that you are not circling the gigantic grounds all night long! Next year, I definitely want to watch the Demolition Derby with Joe!
-
Have at least $40 in cash
-
If you buy ride tickets in advance to the opening date of the fair, you can also get them discounted!
If you live in NC, did you go to the fair this year? What was your favorite thing to do?! :)
