Updated February 2021
Are you planning a skiing trip? In this post, I’ll provide you a ski packing list, logistical details to keep in mind for Snowshoe Mountain, and what to expect at the ski resort.
We just spend the weekend at Snowshoe Mountain and had a blast. It was a little different from the Blue Ridge Mountains that we love in North Carolina. Snowshoe is the place to be if you like a variety of slopes to check out!
The first day that we were there it was FOUR DEGREES and the windchill made it -22 degree. We were not ready. Here is a list of the ski gear, ski clothing, and layers you’ll want to pack!
SKI TRIP ESSENTIALS: PACKING LIST FOR A SKI TRIP
SKI TRIP ESSENTIALS: FOR SKIIING a PACKING LIST
These are the essentials that you definitely need to have when skiing. Ski gear and base layers will make a big difference. It gets cold and wet!
Ski Jacket | Ski Bib or Ski Pants| Long sleeve Tee | Short sleeve Tee | Leggings | Lightweight Ski Jacket | Winter Hat | Ski Googles | Waterproof Gloves | Winter Socks | Ski Face Mask or Neck Gaiter | Chapstick or Lip Balm
SKI TRIP ESSENTIALS: FOR GOING OUT ON TOWN
Ski town is pretty casual so you can keep it low-key
Long Down Jacket | Bean Boots | Jeans | Scarf | Swimming Suit | Sandals | Swimming Suit Cover-Up
SKI TRIP ESSENTIALS: FOOD
You’ll want to bring food to cook with you because Snowshoe Mountain has restaurants but the prices are pretty expensive.
- Pasta
- Snacks (Granola bars, fruit, chocolate, trail mix)
- Tortilla Chips & Salsa
- Deli Meat + Cheese to make sandwiches
- Oatmeal, eggs, bagels, and cream cheese
- Plenty of water and liquids
THINGS TO BE PREPARED FOR
The Drive
You’re going to want a car with four-wheel drive, the drive up the mountain can be pretty brutal and it will likely be snowing.
Be prepared for limited signal once you get up the mountain. I would suggest downloading your google maps itinerary in advance and launching it on your phone.
Logistics
We stayed at Silvercreek and there was a shuttle that came every 20 minutes to get to the Village and other slopes at Snowshoes. Silvercreek also had a place where you could purchase your lift tickets and your rentals. This is where you can get your skis, ski poles, and ski boots if you don’t already own a pair. You will want to bring ski gear that I’ve listed above. Finally, the slopes close at 4:30 PM every day. It’s nice to know where everything is so you can plan your day if you want to.
The lodging at Silvercreek has a kitchen so that you can easily cook.
If you have never skiied before:
Even the “green” slopes at Snowshoe Mountain are filled with some intense hills. If you have never skiied before, it will be a good idea to start at the bunny slopes and learn your way through the basics of braking, turning, etc.
All in all, it was a great trip. My legs were sore but the company was good. Maybe next time I’ll give snowboarding a try.
