7 Ways You Can Procrastinate Productively in College

February 25, 2016

Don’t let procrastination become something that hinders you. Instead, change your mindset to let it become something that lets you recharge, relax, and get back into the groove!

So to mix things up a bit, here are some things you can do to productively procrastinate. (By the way, don’t you just love the irony in that statement?! Just sitting here chuckling to myself as I type away)

How To Procrastinate Productively

1. Take a nap

There might be a good chance you’re procrastinating because your mind is tired from sleep deprivation. A short nap (15-20 minutes) will help you be more alert and improve your activity.

2. Clean and Organize

Clutter negatively impacts your ability to focus and may even cause you more stress. If you’re procrastinating because you’re stressed, cleaning will actually be therapeutic. Chances are you actually find yourself cleaning or organizing something when you are stressed out, you are instinctively getting rid of those stress triggers!

3. Learn a Language

You can spend about 5 minutes of every day with the app duolingo and make really good progress on learning a language.

4. Do Something You Enjoy

There was a particular phase in my life when nothing would relax me more than spending a good amount of time painting my nails. It was the most mindless task but it allowed me to rest my mind and to just focus on myself and that meant the world to me. You can watch a show, exercise, etc. Just don’t let it take up too much time.

5. Spend Time with Friends

When it gets to those extremely stressful moments during college or studying you can find that you’re neglecting your friends. Don’t. Chances are meeting with them will actually help you and they’ll want to help you out. Essentially, they’ll keep you sane so go meet a friend, have some coffee and take a break!

6. Read

There is not much more precious than knowledge in this world and you can acquire that by reading a book. Have a stack of books in categories you wish to have more knowledge in and one book for pleasure close-by. This will help you relax and really recharge your mind.

7. Take a Look at the Bigger Picture

It’s easy to procrastinate when you’ve lost sight of the bigger picture. Take this time to recalibrate yourself and take a glance back at the goals that you have for yourself. Taking a look at how far you’ve come will help you to get through even the most painful tasks.
