The other day I was thinking about where all of my time went and how I could use it more efficiently or effectively. I’m that person who devours self-help books and is obsessed with being productive and I love learning little productivity hacks that save my time for me. So when I started to feel like my time was not being used wisely, I knew I needed to change some things.
I’ve found these days that as I get more and more involved with the blog, I’ve found myself spending so much time on my phone. Day and night I am always on my phone looking at the latest updates, seeing the most recent messages my readers have sent me, just trying to do it all. I went to a bachelorette party this weekend and it was the first time that I realized how distracting and frequent my social media alerts were! It honestly shocked me! I had gotten into such a routine of just letting those alerts pop up and responding to them that I had no idea how much time was being taken out of my day because of this.
So the first thing I did when I got back home from the weekend was set some boundaries for myself. I turned off all alerts for my social media applications and decided that I was going to set aside different times of the day to check up on it. I needed to set some boundaries because too much of my valuable time was going toward getting distracted by these alerts!
My husband politely asked me to stop looking at my phone the other day and to just spend time with him and this really struck a chord with me. No matter what I am doing, I want to put my priorities in the right order and for me one of my very first priorities is my husband. In an effort to do this, I came up with a few simple things I was going to start implementing to use my time more wisely:
1. Turn off all alerts (especially for social media apps) and set aside time to check them
2. Learn to say No
3. Track where my time is spent
4. Make attainable goals
5. Plan for the next day
